Stone Mountain First United Methodist Church is honored to support our Military through the Adopt-A-Platoon Program.
We have been assigned an Army Platoon stationed in Afghanistan deployed from New York State. The Platoon size is
35, all male. They are scheduled to return stateside in June 2010. That gives us approximately 4 months in which to provide
moral and substantive support.
Our responsibility is to send a care package at least once a month AND Letters and Cards every two weeks.
Below is a list of items that can be sent.
SNACKS: beef /turkey jerky, protein/granola bars, trail mix, peanuts, gum, cookies, candy
(any kind), chocolate (only until April 1), crackers, Velveeta cheese (travels well inside plastic containers), plastic cutlery,
microwaveable food such as popcorn and soups.
BASIC PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS: medicated foot care products (NAME BRAND ONLY), hand sanitizer
(WIPES ONLY), plastic clothes hangers to dry clothes, toothpaste, and towels.
COLD WEATHER NEEDS: hand and foot warmer’s, black knitted hats, gloves, and hot chocolate.
SHIPPING NEEDS: Medium & large plastic containers, gallon size Zip-Lock bags, money for
postage and shipping containers.
A box will be set up in Disciples Hall to leave food and other items.
